Good news for wine enthusiasts who to cellar young red wines long enough for them to naturally develop. There are also many who cannot wait to try a young red wine not yet ready to enjoy.
Recently, during the 2010 edition of the Gourmet Wine and Food Expo in Toronto, I was given a sample of a tube inlaid with intricately designed wine mesh. This gadget claims to make young wines more accessible and to replace the decanting process.
At home, I have tried it with several wines and determined that “the wine finer” works. It makes wine lighter in colour, less tannic, diminishes fruitiness just a tad.
Several other wine writers tried it during a tasting and most came to the same conclusion.
Most of the tries were conducted blind to avoid bias.
The device, designed in Denmark, is manufactured in China like most of everything else these days.
Some pundits claim that 60 per cent of all manufactures goods originate in China.
This ingenious device aerates and filters the wine at the same time. These days when time-pressed people want to open a bottle of red wine an just pour, expecting a taste experience. There are several wines that need to be decanted, and/or aerated to achieve their best flavour and aromatic properties.
This is where the wine finer comes in handy. You can use it for super-fruity Australian, Argentine, Chilean, California, Washington State red wines and amarone wines.
Nuance wine finer is imported by Nuance Finer imports, in Summerland, British Columbia, and is available in a number of Niagara wineries (Reif, Kacaba, Vineyards Estate Wines and Wine Kitz stores,
Many restaurants in Toronto and Montreal use it too.
I believe Nuance Wine Finer would be an excellent Christmas present for the wine enthusiast
who has everything relating to wine.
