Copenhagen is dubbed the “happiest” city in the world and one wonders whether the saying corresponds to the truth. It turns out that it does. The citizens of this calm, well-laid out, clean, flat, and flawlessly functioning city are polite, helpful, and charming.

All you have to do as a tourist is to stand somewhere studying a city map, then residents immediately offer help.

Copenhagen, the largest city and capital of Denmark, has approximately two million inhabitants. The city’s existence was first documented in the 11th century, and was “crowned” as the capital four centuries later.

It is one of the most popular Scandinavian cities and boasts excellent ferry connections with Malmo to the north in Sweden.

Copenhagen’s harbour is considered to have the cleanest water of all harbours in the world. It is clean enough for authorities to permit public swimming.

This charming city has a well-planned and flawlessly functioning transportation system. It is also a haven for bicyclists. Thousands ride to work and as a result traffic flows well for a large city.

Copenhagen was occupied by Germans during the World War II but did not suffer physical damage because of the astute policies of the government of the day.

Copenhagen’s downtown boasts the longest pedestrian shopping street anywhere, and offers interesting shopping opportunities of modern cutlery, audio equipment, antiques, and many more out-of-the ordinary objet d’arts.

The city has many parks, and tourist sites such as Amalienborg Palace, Marble Church, Church of Our Saviour, the City Hall and the Rosenborg Castle.

The National Museum where you can admire paintings of Peter Paul Rubens, Rembrandt, Picasso, and Matisse.

There is plenty to do for pre-teens in the downtown Tivoli close to the train station.

When it comes to dining out, be prepared for an experience you will remember for a long time should you dine at NOMA founded by Rene Redzepi. Recently, it was named one of the best restaurants of the world.

If you rather like to visit more common and less expensive restaurants, a gastropub will fit the bill. Needless to say, seafood in any restaurant in Copenhagen is truly fresh and well prepared.

Beer-loving tourists must pay a visit to the world famous Tuborg brewery. They proudly show you not only their immense immaculately clean brewery, but also treat you to a few glasses of fresh brew.

For central Europeans, the best way to travel to Copenhagen is by train, and for North Americans, via London, or Paris.

There is no shortage of accommodation from luxury to medium-priced, to inexpensive bed and breakfast operations.

Its not always the people in here are the happiest in the world, Im from copenhagen and last week when a lady braked in front of me in her car for no aparant reason so i rearended her car, i for sure was not the most happy person in the world

And a site note NOMA was named THE best restaurant in the world
