Canadians Don't Fool around with cakes

Tuesday 14 december 2010 akin to pecan pie, butter Tarts are basically butter, sugar and eggs in shell of a cake, and depending on who you talk to, nuts, raisins and chocolate chips. As a butter cake purist myself, I scoff at gratuite ingredients. Like many Canadians, I take my butter tarts seriously.

If one of the few clear Canadian foods-one that is a staple of pioneer Canadian cooking was, and is indeed delicious-visitors to Canada need to give them a try or stay at home and make a party itself. Especially during the holidays are great for cookie butter tarts or exchanges as a festive dessert served with vanilla ice cream.

MMMM ... I'm sure I've tasted that exact recipe …. and it's a very classic ending to a meal with a little homemade vanilla ice cream.

Excellent recipe!

The Sunday Canadian travel video: Banff To Jasper

">

Sunday is usually a fairly boring day for me, so in a selfish attempt to Sunday a little more exciting in my eyes, and hopefully yours, I have decided to start washing the tubes of the Internet to find some inspiring Canadian Travel video. In this day and age, it is not difficult to find videos travels on the Internet, but many of them seem to lack a certain "gusta" that professional broadcast videos. With any luck, I will be able to find a decent video every Sunday to light up the fire of desire for your next Canadian adventure.

The first video is a video I found on Trip movies, titled "Banff to Jasper – one of the world's most breathtaking drives"

The Sunday Canadian travel video: Moose travel network Big East Tour

">

I'm embarrassed to admit that another week fresh with very little done in writing. However, I have some entries in the work, so fear not, that something quasi-entertaining needs around the corner real soon. So in order to keep track of my feed active, and just because I love surfing videos. Here is another Canadian travel video from some of my favorite parts of Canada on a popular party roadtrip company, Moose Travel Network.

Moose Travel Network has a lot of other great travel across Canada, so make sure to give them a look if you're planning on hitting the Canadian roads. In the meantime, I have some work to get op. Corbin.

Ogopogo – The Canadian Lake Monster

Hidden deep within the chilly waters of Lake Okanagan, something lurks. Something big, something nasty, something…Jurassic. Or at least that’s what many in the area believe. Despite the lack of scientific evidence to back up these unique stories and sightings, people continue to gather around Lake Okanagan hoping to catch a glimpse of this ancient legendary creature.

What is Ogopogo?

The First Nations of in the area have spoke of the Naitaka (aka Ogopogo) for hundreds of years. It was known as a constant threat to the people, and offerings were typically given before long journeys over Lake Okanagan. It wasn’t until the late 1800′s, when the Europeans began to settle/invade the area that stories and sightings began spreading about the 50 foot sea serpent living at the bottom of Lake Okanagan. Many people say Ogopogo is a cousin to the Loch Ness Monster, and is a living Plesiosaur.

Is this thing for real?!Ogopogo Canadian Lake MonsterImage courtesy of Wikimedia

In the last hundred and some years, countless photos, videos, and stories have surfaced about this Canadian Lake Monster. Unfortunately, as with most other cryptozoological discoveries, the photos are grainy, the videos are shakey and out of focus, or they’re clearly just logs of wood, waves, or in some cases just a beavers tail. Despite the lack of evidence, believers are common in the area.

My thoughts on Ogopogo

Having swam in Lake Okanagan, I can honestly say that it does have that eerie “What the hell was that…something just brushed my foot!” feel to it. Maybe thats because I had heard of the stories before swimming and I was just tripping myself out. Or maybe its the sheer depth and grandeur of the landscape and lake. Or maybe, just MAYBE, my chi was aligning with Ogopogos minds eye, creating a psychic connection where I could feel what he/she felt, and he/she could feel what I felt. Perhaps?

A note to Ogopogo:

I want to believe in you Ogopogo, because dinosaurs would be soooo awesome to ride, and feed, and probably party with. But if you exist, and read the internet, just do yourself a favour. Stand still for a photo, give a massive Dino-Scream in front of a video camera, heck…eat a tourist! We all just want to know, Are you for real!?

Sightings and stories of Ogopogo (’70s edition)

Yes, even the 70s had an interest in the unexplained. Watch the video “The Search for Ogopogo” and check out how young Leonard Nimoy looks! What a gem!

What do you think?

Do Lake Monsters Exist? And if they do, who would win in a fight…The Loch Ness Monster or Ogopogo?

I'm a 20-something guy from the flatlands of Canada. After backpacking the South Pacific for a year & a bit I came home to Canada and found out my journey wasn't over. I began backpacking from coast to coast for 6 months, and have been doing so on and off for the last year and a half.

I started this site in the hopes of learning a little more about where I come from. Somewhere along the way this travel blog decided to evolve into an independent travel guide for other backpackers and young adults interested in travelling Canada on a budget. Join me for the ride, and if you happen to be backpacking across Canada, feel free to contact me to be part of this unique travel guide. I'd love to hear from you!

The Sunday Canadian travel video: Fernie Alpine Resort

">

Almost an entire month has passed since my last post. Needless to say there isn't a lot of backpacking/trip going on in my life at this time, which in turn has led to the amount of entries putter down. Fortunately, I've been keeping busy. School at this time is going great, and I'm loving every day of the in the program of Digital Media & Graphic Design. I have a lot of work from new customers, and my portfolio is slowly starting to build.

Unfortunately broke my digital camera a couple of weeks back, which can be partly due to the lack of new posts. On the plus side, it still stuck and need in my hands soon, which in turn (hopefully) should in some new stuff to write about.

So without further ADO I want to share one of my favourite mountains in Canada. I came across this YouTube clip that some of the great powder shows & snowboarding that Fernie gets each year. Fingers crossed a trip to the Rockies is in my near future!
